The gift of time is priceless.

The Friends of CARE group, led by Sybil Barkett and Maggie Brener, helps provide support services for CARE through raising awareness and funds. The FRIENDS work independently to help provide the “extras” that make CARE special for Teachers and Students.

Join READ ON Miami

READ ON Miami volunteers and tutors at CARE committing to spending time at least twice a month with the students reading aloud. There is a tremendous need for caring adults to read or work with children one-on-one in the afternoon between 1:00 pm and 5:00 pm. The children are all anxious to have the opportunity to sit with the volunteers and read treasured classics and new additions to our collection. Great books and a comfortable reading environment are provided and volunteers and students find the experience to be extremely rewarding.

The Importance of Reading Aloud to Students of All Grades and Levels:
In a recent Reading Horizons webinar, Author Sarah Collinge, discussed the importance of reading aloud to students of all reading levels and the impact this simple practice can have on increasing students’ reading levels.

Modeling Fluent Reading
“Having someone read aloud to students helps increase their reading level, because it models fluent reading for students. By following along and seeing how the adult emphasizes different words, pauses at commas and periods, and pronounces difficult words, students can increase their own reading fluency.”
